Underweight problem

Hi guys,

Ive recently began to realise just how thin I am. Im 17 years old, 5 foot 9 and im only 8st 2.

Ive noticed that in photos I actually look unhealthy, for example my cheecks go in on my face and I look like a corpse. I can feel many of my bones sticking out, such as my collar bones, knee and hips etc, its making me feel really down about my body.

Im currently studying for A levels so I haven't got the time nor energy to start workout out unfortuately, so would simply eating a bit more do the job? Im not really looking for a buff body with 6 packs and all that, I just want to be average with a bit of meat :)

Hope you can help.

Cheer:)

Increase you fat intake, but not through 6-packs, animal fat, or commercial sweets
that are loaded with the unhealthy corn syrup. Peanut butter has healthy fat and it is packed with calories, and pure honey is the healthier sweetener, and goes nicely with whole wheat bread. But you have to keep active, otherwise you may end up with a spare tire around your waist before your sunken cheeks smooth out. And remember: A disciplined and healthy diet is a lifetime commitment for healthy life - as oppose to those so-called yo-yo diets that undisciplined people -like Oprah Winfrey- are always going through. And stay off of those garbage "sport drinks!" Good luck!

I have the exact same problem. I cant ever gain weight though. Have you tried?

You say you dont have alot of time so i guess you should choose pretty quick meals to cook and snacks ets.

Eat whole meal everything- Bread, Cereal it should all be whole meal/whole grain.

Eggs with cheese added, soups with cheese to works.

Melted ice-cream mixed with honey.

Have nutty snacks like a peanut buttter sarnie (on wholemeal bread of course)

Nutella is good.

Plenty of fruit and veg is always good and whole milk.

Eat 5-6 times a day even if its just grabbing a snack. You need to eat around 500 calories than you burn and an average male needs 2500 so go for 3000 calories.

Hope i helped!

Pasta, chicken, potatos and 'beige' food.

Whole milk

My son has the same problem and he is 5'9 as well but he weighs 104lbs at almost 16. Our pediatrician has him drinking milk shakes with added protein powder every night. Since he's been doing that he has gained 5lbs (since last summer). I agree with what everyone else has mentioned as well about getting the right kind of fats. Give the protein shake a try.

High calorie density healthy foods like fatty fish, nuts and nut butters, and avocados may help. Try to do some strength building exercises (pushups, pullups, dips, squats, etc.) so that the added weight includes muscle rather than just fat (although fat gain may be healthy if in your current state you have too little body fat).
