Jesus, even having the feds come to my house and take my computer would be just about the most shaming experience of my life. How would I explain to the roommates..

F' peer2peer smut.

I'm using CyberScrub to delete "beyond recovery" most of the stuff on my HD. Is there anything in the registry or anything I need to worry about. I am pretty much computer illiterate, as my situation would suggest.

expensive to be used on insignificantly small cases like somebody downloading something by
accident and immediately deleting it. There is no way in any circumstance that the most
expensive scanning tunnelling electron microscope technique is ever, under any circumstance,
going to be used on anything less than a national security matter, period, end of sentence.

If you're not spreading anthrax around D.C. or mailing a hard drive full of uranium enrichment
info to China, a military standard DOD 5220.22 secure wipe that most secure delete software
is capable of is more than sufficient to make it effectively impossible for the FBI to cope
with or afford.

They're still using AnaDisk, for crying out loud. Do you know how old that puppy is?

For the few that accidentally download something a simple delete followed by
defragging the drive is more than enough to put their minds at ease. To think
otherwise is to be superstitious and to tell people otherwise is sensationalism for
the sake of self entertainment.
 
I download porn on LimeWire regularly. My biggest problem is either the sources are unreliable or my dialup internet is just too slow to handle a download. So usually I just click wildly on many different images because I am thinking that it is only showing what I searched for, like an adult(yes ADULT) video, but instead there is child pornography. Many things aren't what they are named, and lately I have been quite nervous because I have just started downloading porn on a regular basis on limewire and I have found many of the files to actually be child pornography, I have used the mcafee file shredder to shred these files about 20 times a piece. I already knew that it was illegal, a few people from my own town got busted for having it, so I was quite nervous. But then I check it out online and find that there is "Dummy" files that the FBI uses to catch suspects of child pornography? I think someone else is having a mental breakdown now, I know what the guy is talking about.

Child porn isn't my bowl of soup, and just think of all the relief everyone would have that downloads adult content on LimeWire or any other filesharing program if there wasn't any such thing on them. There's no way to stop it though, because people can share anything that they want, and unless the FBI makes a whole new branch of their investigations and hires another thousand or more trained employees, it will still go on and if they would decide to go full-blown, many of the people they would catch wouldn't have ever had the intent to look at or download this type of porn. If LimeWire was clean of this CP, people downloading adult content wouldn't have to worry about getting anything illegal.

I guess the safest way to get free porn is Yahoo or Google...and not the untrusted sharers on LimeWire. I definitely do not want to share this illegal material, I have deleted it immediately. Is there still hidden traces of it? Is there still the possibility of me sharing it to other people? I definitely want rid of all traces and it though, it is quite disgusting.
 
Here is my question. Say you downloaded a movie file and when u attempted to open it the it wouldn't open and it won't allow you to delete it or play it and the name suggests questionable material. How would one go about removing said material?
 
The problem with hearsay evidence is that the police have
to follow up and get documented evidence to corroborate

Tips are good, but you cannot consider them an order to go
through doors and seize evidence. If that was so, anybody
could get police to storm any home with a single phone call.

You have completely missed the point, he was not charged with downloading KP he was charged with possession of KP.

British law doesn't ask how you get KP its main tenet is that you possess it.

ummm sorry about my spelling I was in a rush, but yeah i also have the same paranoia, but anyhows I found the files by doing search and typed in keywords and I found them and deleted them, are they gone forever?

he says he deleted it right away...even if he deleted it out of his limewire library, wouldnt it have, at the very least, not been shared anymore? It just seems odd that they would go after him "about a year later"(with out any other occasions of him sharing illegal images), and STILL slap him with jail time and make him register as a sex offender. Whats even weirder to me is, they are charging him with possession...i don't think they could do that if he really couldnt access the files him self..i mean they could have charged him with creating(when the image shows up on your screen) but not possession...and too true, every case i've seen where someone got busted for having these files on the gnutella network, got busted for sharing them. i don't think downloading a few and deleting them asap would really count as sharing, ecspecially when they would have "bigger fish" sharing a ton of files with out any discretion.
 
Well, where did you get these files from(I'm assuming through the Gnutella network, but I don't want to make an assumption)? If you were mass downloading, and never deleted any of the files you downloaded, Its extremely possible you could have downloaded these files and had been sharing them for quite some time. If you were using Limewire, It comes standard to share every file you download (unless you specifically tell it not too, most people don't know this). Alot of people have come across this stuff before using p2p, but delete it immediately, and for the most part, end up being fine. However, if you download this stuff, accidentaly or otherwise, and don't delete it, it would give authorites the right to believe that you were sharing these files on purpose, thus giving them the reason to go after you and confiscate your computer. Word to the wise, always check every file you download.

Did they by chance tell you how long they were monitoring those files you had on your computer?
 
deletion of files only does one thing...the fact that they are on your HDD is simply removed from the operating system's sight...the files are still there and can be recovered very easily...the only way to even come close to truly getting rid of the data is to physically overwrite it with an application such as those I mentioned above...even then with time and money they can still most likely be recovered if someone really wants to...
 
for people that dont know get peer guardian and on the phoenix labs site at the bottom right of the page click the I-Blocklist link theres a (pedophiles) list of known pedofiles. you can use it to create a list to block them in peerguardian click list manager/add put a check next to add url and at the top in description) name it somthing like p2p1 click ok it could help.

LimeWire has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with the content of files shared within the Gnutella Network...
Neither does BearShare or Morpheus or ANY other Gnutella Network-based p2p 'client'.

Any comment(s) re: 'undesirable' material that may be distributed within the Gnutella Network will be absolutely incorrect if any specific client is named and/or 'accused'.
 
Hi I am new to this limewire stuff and I too have been caught out. The title was legit but the content was not. Have I any cause for concern? Not good a good start I might add !! But what I would like to know is how can you catch these people?
Any input would be appreciated

Hey, this isn't related to p2p or Gnutella, but people here seem to be knowledgeable about this stuff. The other day I signed up for an adult website. The website looks completely legal, it used CCbill, it explicitly states that all girls are over 18, and advertised that they were, specifically, "18yrs to 22yrs." Just like any other adult website.

However, some of the videos I downloaded... a few of them seem pretty young, like they could be 16 or 17. I've canceled my subscription and deleted everything I downloaded just in case. I'm still not sure they were under 18, but I don't want to take any chances. However, today I've been thinking that what if they were, and the authorities shut the website down... they'll have my credit info, so I went searching for any info I could find that would be useful about this, and stumbled on this discussion. I found out from reading this that deleting doesn't actually completely remove the files from the hard drive, which I didn't know before.

Anyway... I guess I'm asking, even if I was under the impression that the website I signed up for was completely legal, and they advertised that as such, and I canceled my subscription as soon as I had suspicions to the contrary, I'm assuming I'll still be in trouble? I'm really getting kind of worried about this.

Yeah, just so you know I'm not lying about the site looking legit, here it is (Definitely NSFW): NSFW Again, I'm still not sure there's anything illegal there, but I don't want to take any chances.

Oh, and I'm not too computer savvy, how can I scrub (Or whatever it's called.) my hard drive? Just in case, I want this stuff off my computer. I already deleted the files, so I can't use any of those ways of deleting them, is there anything I can do about it at this point?

What i use is CCleaner and set is to the NSA (7 passes) Secure Deletion. Which means that it deletes everything you want it to by first overwriting it with zeros seven times and then deletes it. Most secure way i can think of. Awesome program that i recommend anyone who has had this problem to get.
