underage festival photography?

The 'photo pit' in any festival or concert is not something which anybody can just walk into and snap away. You will need a press pass and certainly be working for a publication. If you look at the rules and regulations for the event you will likely see that photography is not allowed or it will state that cameras such as DSLRs are not permitted.

The other guy is right, leave your camera at home, take a pocket P&S if you like to record the memories, but just go and enjoy yourself instead of seeing the whole festival through a viewfinder.

Forget it. Just forget the idea totally.

There will be space for photographers, but you'll need a press pass to get in. Most festivals also won't allow a camera with a detachable lens, so forget that too.

Just go and enjoy yourself, forget about the photos.

It depends what sort of festival it is. Usually, there is a barrier which separates the "pit" and the stage. Generally, to get this access at a festival you would need a press pass, which you obtain from an editor or publication.

My advice would be to just push as far to the front as you can. Its harder to take photos in the middle of the crowd, because of all the pushing/moshing/dancing going on, whereas if you get to the front, you can use the barrier as support. If you have trouble squeezing in, just tap people on the shoulder and ask nicely, or offer to take their photo. In my experience, people become a lot nicer when they realize they have a chance of being published on a website/magazine.

Good luck!
