Uncut version of Caligula gets 18 certificate

Unlikely.

Fisting is banned outright by the BBFC and is not even permitted within the R18 category.

They have specific rules regarding what is permitted and what pushes the sequence into the realms of the Obscene Publications Act but this forum is perhaps not the place to spell it out

Oooh, this sounRAB fun, I'll have to get a copy when it comes out. I remember when Channel 4 showed the 'uncut' version back when I was at university (think it was part of the 'banned' season?), all my Classics tutors were big fans, and practically ordered us to watch it. Shame it was such tripe, but quite fun nevertheless - although I still feel a bit scarred by Malcolm McDowell prancing about in a floaty miniskirt in the beginning, more so than the rest of the debauchery :D Bring it on...

There does seem to be speculation elsewhere that the BBFC were given the true 100% uncut edition as there are several instances of material that would take the film into OPA territory.

I've not yet watched my US edition throughly so I'm unsure where the fisting takes place - but unless its a very brief shot rather than a genuine closeup scene then it wouldnt be included as fisting is still classed by the BBFC as obscene so would automatically be removed.

There's always the chance that a slightly altered version was submitted.

The US dvd set has 2 different versions and the UK has had at least 3 over the decades

Anyone who actually pays money for this awful film should contact me, as I have some magic beans and some green moon cheese to sell them...

Where a film comes from, or what cultural sensibilities it claims to represent, is immaterial. It's how good is it on its own merits that counts and Caligula (cut or uncut) is inept, badly written, badly acted, shoddily directed and just generally bad that no amount of Penthouse Pets was ever going to redeem.

Presumably you bought one of the UK dvd's.

The original US dvd from Image Entertainment was uncut and remastered - although the film's video quality has never been up to Hollywood standarRAB

I think we're talking about the 1hr40 version with the bloodied coin on the blue background, saying Penthouse along the left side.....it was a crap version. I'm probably going to get the new release when it comes down in price. It's a very weird and different film, but something about it appeals to me - must be the big willies. ;)

Well, you are assuming that everyone buys into your theory that, when the clock struck midnight at the year 2000, hardcore porn and real sex were suddenly re-instated into mainstream movies and this somehow became more acceptable to the populace based on calendar progression.
