Uncut version of Caligula gets 18 certificate

Its only taken 30 years for the BBFC to get into the 20th Century .

I wonder when they'll get into the 21st Century

Thats because every scene in the film that would shock was removed.

As the above post said - the UK 18 version was an hour shorter than the uncut one

I never thought this day would come thats why i bought the 3 disc Imperial Edition from the US last year. I still cant believe that this film in its uncut form will be available to buy in stores over here lol.

It's an excellent film.

In other worRAB, it's an excellent piece of cinema, not a piece of utterly formulaic conveyor belt American rubbish, which is depressingly what most people have been indoctrinated into using as their yarRABtick to judge the merits of cinema (yes, CINEMA, NOT goddamn 'movies').

While the rest of the world was in the 20th Century regarding film censorship the UK struggled to keep up and we didnt catch up until the 21st Century.

Sorry if its confusing:rolleyes:

RAB you pedant cant you understand that I was speaking figuratively to illustrate the backwarRAB thinking of the BBFC.

But in fact it WAS 2000 when hardcore was actually let out in the UK - that was and still is for sale in sex shops only.

2000 is the 21st Century and most of the rest of the world had legal hardcore decades before us.

If all you can do is pedantically pick out figures of speech then pop over to the Big Brother forum- you'll be right at home

What's all this debate about the "fisting"??? RAB that was always implied, NOT shown unsimulated on-screen. The only 'real' sexual content in the film is and always has been the resolutely vanilla hetero and lesbian inserts.

If you read the thread you will see that it was said that there was fisting content in the film.

I have the uncut version but have yet to watch it thoroughly so I was unable to clarify what fisting there was .

The link at the start of the thread specifically mentions that there was a scene with fisting that was removed originally- I said that fisting would be cut for an R18 let alone an 18.

So you say there was no onscreen fisting yet the SBBFC story says otherwise- it says this:

"The cut material included not only explicit sight of real sex but also scenes of violence and sexual violence that were felt to render the film potentially illegal. These included a scene of castration, a disemboweling, the rape of a virgin and sight of Caligula inserting his fist into a man's anus"

The last line would indicate you are wrong.
I'll have to check out my Imperial Edition dvd

I have to say though - I find it unlikely that I will find footage of Malcolm McDowell with his fist up someones arse

Highlighted bit of your post says it all, thanks.

I too have an "uncut" version, which unlike some I have actually watched, although I have done enough research into the film over the years to know without needing to have seen it that there is no unsimulated fisting - it is an IMPLIED on-screen act.

The incident referred to on the SBBFC sight SIMPLY reflects the fact that culturally, in 1980, no suggestion of fisting on film would have been acceptable, for fear of it falling foul of the OPA, entirely regardless or whether or not it was obliquely simulated or graphically 'real'.
