Uncrippled Verizon (as best as possible)

Hello, I'm fed up with verizon, but they're the only provider I can have where I live.

I currently have a V3m, which is absolutely horrible, with crippled bluetooth (as expected) and has no way to back up my text messages (admittedly, I have 2500 or so, but that's the reason I want to back them up and then delete them, very important reminders to me I don't want to lose) and lags with only a few pictures taken. 'Hacking' doesn't do anything too useful.

I realize phones are limited, and Verizon installs their own special software which screws over your phone if you don't 'hack' it, and I also realize what I can get is limited.

However, knowing all that, I would love if someone could reccommend me both
1) A Phone Manufacturer (Samsung, LG, Motorola, etc.) and
2) A couple models of phones I could look at.

I am trying to be in no way influenced by style or individuality/etc, but I would rather not have a popular phone. I know some are popular from function, but too many are popular from style.

I don't want a music player on it, I have an ipod (with rockbox on it) for that. A camera would be nice. I text a lot.

Sorry for my pretentiousness. Please reccommend me a phone.

Yes. The people at the store know nothing about the phones besides their supposed features such as "bluetooth", however, for example, Verizon does not have any phones with bluetooth support, they just tell half lies.

They try to sell you the prettiest phones, I don't want a pretty phone, I want one that works.

I was asking if anyone had a phone they liked that was easy to hack, and had the stanard functions.

Like, for example, what models work well with bitpim? Certainly not the v3m.

If you like texting you should check out the VX9900 enV. It has a full qwerty keyboard which is very convenient for texting, a 2mpx camera, and as far as I can tell, the most bt profiles supported for any non-PDA VZW phones. The u740 also has a full qwerty keyboard in a smaller package. The buttons are pretty small, and I was unable to use it comfortably, but you might want to check it out. Good luck

So with the Alltell flash, he'd be able to back up all his text messages??

I didn't know any phone would let you do that.

However, for important reminders, I use the calendar.... Kyocera's Calendar had a nice To Do list, which Motorola doesn't.

I can't imagine weeding through 2500 texts to find a reminder though.
