Uncrating Question

I am new to the forum and been out of bikes for awhile. Well, I got some things taken care of and getting ready to buy a new one. I am in the market for a 1098s. I don't have a Ducati dealer near me. If I have one shipped from a dealer in its orginal crate, is there anything special that needs to be done to one whne it is uncrated? Thanks for your help.

without a hoist or something it may be difficult to get it out. Because the tires are in a channel so they don't roll. You'll need a 12mm socket and an impact gun. It'll take you all day to get it apart without an impact gun. Unstrap the tie downs and get it out however you can You'll have to put the windscreen on it and the mirrors and tighten down the clip-ons. When we uncrate a bike at the shop we go over the whole bike and make sure everything it tight. I would have a few buddies to help you with this. Have fun with the new bike!

Keith,

I don't have any concrete information, but are you sure Ducati and/or an authorized Ducati dealership will ship you an uncrated bike? The dealership is entrusted with the task of uncrating the motorcycle and prepping the bike for delivery. This dealer prep includes a safety inspection. If the bike were delivered to a customer uncrated, the dealer prep/safety inspection wouldn't get done. This in turn raises all sorts of liability issues. I can't imagine Ducati Motor Holding would incur the risk.

But I don't really know. For all I know, it happens all the time. Although, I gotta say, I've never heard of anybody taking delivery of an uncrated motorcycle, and I've been around bikes for forty years.

I'm curious. Let us know if you find out you are, (or aren't) allowed to take delivery of an uncrated motorcycle, direct from the factory.

I talked with Bograt's Motorsports today and she told me that I could get the bike crated without being preped. The only thing I would have to do is sign a waiver and it could void the warranty. After thinking about it, I will just go and pick it up from a dealership. It will be easier that way.
