Hmmm... some of the dialogue sounded... unevenly mixed. And I thought this was the version where Mr Garrison says Mr Hat is going to tell the class about "Columbus' uterus." In this one I heard "direct objects."
It came as a bonus disc with the first season DVD set, although it might have been a Best Buy exclusive.
Anyway, I liked the final version a lot better. Cartman works a lot better when it's just him and his mom. I can't picture him being the way he is today with a larger family around.
One of the deleted scenes (the cafeteria scene with Pip) resurfaces in "An Elephant Makes Love to a Pig." It's rather jarring to see the cut-out footage mixed in with the rest of the Maya-generated animation.
I thought the most interesting part was the way that Kenny came back to life at the end of the episode. I think originally they were going to have Kenny come back to life at the end of every episode rather than stay dead throughout the episode. I remember reading the original script of the Kathy Lee episode and Kenny came back alive at the end of that one as well. And then the next episode was the lava episode and I remember that in the episode that actually aired Kenny was crushed by a molten piece of rock, yet later in the episode he was shown alive again, only to be accidentally shot by Jimbo.
You know, the audio sounds a little different than when I first listened to the pilot. I remember the pilot had a different theme song originally that sounded very different from the music we know associate with South Park and that theme played numerous times throughout the episode. I find it odd that this version removed that theme entirely. I haven't listened to the commentary yet. Maybe I'll get to that tomorrow.
And Kenny returns at the end of "An Elephant Makes Love To A Pig," and miraculousy remains in the football game in the Big Gay Al episode. So judging by the first few episodes, I guess the original idea was to have Kenny die and then come back to life before the episode is over.
That was very different and explains Cartman's flaming flatulance. Seeing the bullies was also a treat, and oddly enough, I like this unaired pilot better than what we got back in Season 1.
I think those were both animation errors. It's actually happened in a few more episodes that Kenny has been seen alive when he should be dead. For instance, in Chef Aid and Starving Marvin's Outer Space adventure he can be spotted where he shouldn't be. I believe he also appeared in the classroom in Bigger, Longer, and Uncut as well.
