take.? This is the full story:
My friend and I have been playing games on Xbox live for years now. We've been using private chat from the beginning. We've run into troubles before, and that's been fixed by replacing faulty equipment, etc, but recently(about 1 month ago) my friends router stopped working all together. A few days from then he was going to go on a trip for the week, and so he did without trying to repair anything.. and when he got back it still didn't work. He got it "Repaired" quickly by his ISP who said that his home computer was asking for the wrong IP address or something like that, and it was blocking all of the internet from working for any devices... Though that's just what my friend said -- He might have misunderstood. Anyways, after they "Repaired" it he could connect to Xbox live, play games on Matchmaking with usual lag(IE the occasional Dial Up connector... Just kidding) but could not connect to me in private chat or in games. We looked into it and tried multiple different steps(listed below) on both of our Routers:
-Static IP and DMZ
-Disabling router Firewall
-Opening correct ports for Xbox, with static IP
--^that with DMZ as well...
---^That with Disabled Firewall as well...
And none of it would work. We tried and tried again, but could only get a connection when I would bypass my wireless router and go directly from my modem. That makes it seem like it was my router, but we had it functioning fully before my friend was set up with a static IP(the "Repairs") by his ISP, and I didn't modify settings until after we had issues.
Cable Cord -> Modem -> Wireless Router (Linksys WRT54GS[memorized because of all the settings changes]) -> Xbox 360 Adapter/Xbox 360
Mine is the same, except I have a Belkin Wireless N Router.
What can either of us do to fix our issue?
I am willing to post more information if you need it.
