UMA and Verizon FiOS

Hello stackers. I have successfully connected and made cals via UMA or wireless networks but when I get home and connect to my home network the calls hang up after 2 to 3 seconds. I have Verizon FiOS at home and have to use their wireless router for the service to work right. Can anyone help me?

you should be able to use any router...as long as it emits a signal...the only thing is, is a TMO router is going to work best because it wraps up the connections better...makes it more seamless

I regrettingly returned my phone and router, just wasnt working like advertised and dont feel like going past my 30 day trial trusting them to clean it up "later". I was not able to stay connected to my parents Verizon router either and nobody could help me remedy it as of yet. When I read here aqnd other places the problems have been worked out then I will give it another shot.

I am using a TMO H@H router (free after rebate) with Fios and have had no issues with my UMA service. I do not have a FIOS wireless router.

So in a nutshell, if you have poor quality use TMo's router? I am having major breaks in my conversations while using UMA where it is completely silent, then I will hear a voice. I just called TMobile and told them I wanted the router after all and it was only minor drama to get them to still give me the rebate. We got lucky though because they changed the price today to 19.99 for hotspot at home!!!! So glad to get it before that!!!!!

So just a quick update, I got my Curve to work w/ UMA now with no issues. I am using a wireless belkin router as an AP with it hard wired into the provided actiontec router's lan ports calls no longer get dropped. So now laptops connect wirelessly to the Actiontec while the Cruve uses the wirless features of the Beklin. It's very quirky but it works.

I am having the same problem and I also have a TMO Curve and Actiontec (FIOS) router. Can you explain, in further detail, how you went about configuring your setup in order to get the Curve to make calls over UMA.

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Mike

I am still using the Verizon router, with laptops using it's wireless (channel 2) functionality for access. I then have a wireless Belkin router hard wired into the Actiontec router using one of the lan ports. The Belkin is configured as an access point using a different channel w/ WPA. I use a static IP on my 8320 for QOS through the Actiontec router and the 8320 is the only device on the Belkin.

I hope that explains it better, if not drop me an email.

Ok I did what you said but I think I might be missing a step somewhere...I have a linksys (not the tmobile one) wired into the actiontec router using the lan port. I get WiFi on the 8320 through the linksys but it doesnt switch over to UMA. Under WiFi diagnostics should my WiFi IP address, DNS and gateway be associated with the linksys or Actiontec? Also it says that the VPN link is down and the UMA status says ISP failure.

I was hoping someone had this solved. I have a customer who can't use UMA over Fios, but I don't have access to a Fios wireless router to help troubleshoot. I know UMA is a little different from wi-fi data traffic, that's why you may be successful browsing the internet over wi-fi but unable to make calls. T-Mobile UMA establishes a VPN connection for voice traffic. The router needs to be configured to allow IPsec traffic. I don't know if the Actiontec router allows this by default. If someone has one and can check, I'd be interested to hear back.

I have the same problem. Have Verizon FIOS with Actiontec MI242WR. On my T-Mobile Blackberry Curve I get a steady UMA connection and the Wifi connection works just fine. However when I make a call when I am on UMA the other phone rings (I called my other mobile phone) but the call and UMA connection both get disconnected if the receiver picks up the phone.

I tried a bunch of settings on the router like adding Port Forwarding for the Blackberry on IPSec, etc. Nothing works till now. I know this is a pretty good router(although it is a little complicated to configure). It has a lot of controland flexibility so am assuming you can get it to work with UMA if you know the correct settings.

Does anyone have a solution? Help!
