Um...my beta fish committed suicide?

a few years ago i checked on my beta fish and she was not there.
i took good care of her and my 2nd beta. both lives around 3-4 years.
my 2nd beta. the most recent. died of old age. but my first my family jokingly says "committed suicide" as a funny joke on how she died.
i was maybe 6 years old and i took full responsibility for my fish. i even told my mom to back off when she tried to help :D
but i was to young to k ow that beta fish jump. so one day my beta wasn't there. her water temperature was normal and the tank was clean. but we soon (my mom ans me) looked around the house to see where she was. the funny thing is that once the search started i looked directly at her and at first i thought it was a stone. (she was a pretty blue and purple) but then we found water marked on the ledge she jumped onto. we laughed since she just landed on the ledge and fell off. it turned out the pretty stone was my fish. already dead.
i strangly cried as my 2nd fish was flushed down the toilet. even though i never really felt a strong connection with her (her name was Emily) i still cried as though there was one.
why would my beta jump out?

u didnt really have to tell us all that. you couldve just asked why your fish jumped out.
anyway back to the question...i don't know...maybe cuz it was a fish?! and it wasnt that brilliant?! i don't think fish think about the consequences of their actions!
