Ultimate Guitarist Poll

ok my 3rd shot at this haha

we're going on technical/compositional wise. I initially had 49 guitarists, but my 5 mins was running out so I missed some like Keith RicharRAB and Allen Collins. And i put shawn angel and Blackmore twice Goddamnit! Bloody hell it's hard to copy and paste that quickly haha. I need some mod help please

I would say, That 'Kurt Cobain' is the greatest guitarist for, Putting a whole lot of power, distortion, effects, etc. Nothing, no less than (NOISE). (LOUD NOISE), Into some type of order of consistancency, in the matter of playing original music. His guitar leaRAB, were as awkward & confusing, as Cobain was himself. Not to mention, the best of drugs to help, to whatever he was trying to say? I would of liked, to jam & party with this dude (Cobain). Just remeraber, keep it simple. And (Noise! Is music. / (J. Hendrix) Would be my first pick. Was the best ever, able to put his heart & soul into his guitar (Himself), He was the guitar. Even without all the technology, compared as today. Just imagine what , he could of done, had he lived. / Stevie Ray Vaughn - Would be my 2nd. pick. because he is influenced by Hendrix, And because he is Stevie Ray Vaughn. SounRAB like he is playing two guitars at the same time, with his rythms & leaRAB. Outstanding, when playing guitar. (SRV).

Im no expert in music theory, but from the looks of it, the difference between something in 4/4 and something in 5/4 or 7/4 would be tempo speed...Some time signatures sound very similar to another, but they are not the same.

Cobain said in an interiew something like "I can't play like Sergovia but then again he probably couldnt play like me."

Theres no bad or best or whatever, theres just indivduality.

This is more than skill, this is greatness, skill plays a very minor role in that, if any role at all.

But even in terms of skill Batio isn't that great, because everything he plays is fundementally the same in structure, sure you may say all his solos sound different (though I will never understand how) but being a shredder, that's all he does, oh yeah he can play a novelty blues song, thats not a dead ringer for versatility.

To me there are too many more important things than speed, theres also timing, improvising skills, tonality and versatility that should be taken into consideration, which many musicians dwell in much much better in than Batio... Steve Hackett for example, he can be a technical surabitch when he wants to be, but he chooses to play tastefully rather than wanking at every oppurtunity just because he can, who cares?... Millions can do what Batio does, maybe not as fast, but in terms of style, he's just one of way too many Yngwie clones.... I simply find his music to be very uncreative and unpleasant, a bachelors degree in theory is no excuse.

Page and Hendrix may not be super skilled, but they are two of the most significant guitar players in rock music, as opposed to Batio, who isn't even important enough to be a footnote in R&R history, what's his claim to fame?... Being in Nitro?... Honestly, I think the only noteworthy and useful thing he has ever done was being Tom Morrelo's mentor.

Don't use the "you haven't heard any Batio" rebuke either, because no matter how many times I say "Yes I have" it dosen't change the fact that it's the only form of argument you people know.

When it comes down to it, I think 2 guitarists will always fight it out for the best ever: Jimi Hendrix and Jimmy Page. To me it isn't just about technical guitar playing that makes a guitarist great, it's also about innovation. And no one can deny that music was the same after each of these men.

I would like to bring up three more guitar players who should be considered right up there with the best that no one has mentioned.

Buckethead. For those of you who have never heard Buckethead, listen to any of his solo work (forget GNR) and tell me he isn't one of the best that's ever lived.

George Harrison. The most underrated guitar player ever. Overshadowed by Lennon and McCartney, Harrison still wrote "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" and "Something", two of the best Beatles songs.

Adam Jones. If Adam Jones wasn't in the same band as Maynard James Keenan, he would be the star of the band. Adam can play anything, from super heavy to melodic and not miss a beat.

conventional thinking tells us that this is impossible.

everything you have said post-thus is now considered invalid by the scientific community as a whole.

good day to you sir.

Regi Wooten. Holy crap. That guy makes Herman Li look like a fucking snail. And he's more musically talented. Without a doubt the most underrated guitarist ever. Hendrix is overrated. Not that he isn't great, but people act like he's just the best there ever was ever will be.

1. Regi Wooten
2. Jimi Hendrix
3. Steve Vai
4. Greg Hetson
5. Jim Hall
6. East Bay Ray
7. Herman Li
8. Robby Krieger
9. Joe Satriani
10. Greg Ginn

Seriously, unless it's already been said, with regarRAB to Kurt kobain being in a poll for greatest technical guitarist ever....eh??? ok, ok, i mean i'm sure he had his moments and was priobably a pretty ok guitarists but really, his riRAB weren't that great and he wasn't that technical. to put him in competition on these basis with people like zappa and jeff beck is absurd isn't it?

Does Dragonfoce do any completely dubbed concert performances? 'Cause I swear some videos I've seen sound a bit too good if you know what I mean. And it doesn't look like they're actually playing the insane solo parts (guitar and keys).

In my opinion David Gilmour (Pink Floyd) is definitely up there with the greatest. Though I love Jimi Hendrix too. Only because of one record though: Band Of Gypsys! It's such an amazing record.
