Ultimate Guitarist Poll

Boo-Boo,
if you dont get it now, you never will. if you dont feel something when you (or someone else that you like) plays, then you should just quit playing.
seriously dude, take up drums or something if thats how you look at it.

BTW, i diddnt say guitars have souls, i said that the idea is to show your soul through the guitar.

And everybody's guitar playing owes a lot to the person who invented the guitar.

Honestly, how many more ways can it be played? Everybody learns from the people before them. if you loved it, you might take some influence and put it in your music. If you hated, you might take some influence and keep that style away from your music.

I don't think you can really say what "Influenced" anybody but yourself, and I guarantee you're not even aware of every single thing that has influenced you or your music.

My choices:

Jimmy Page - he is very experimental and he can write great ballaRAB as well great hard rock songs. He is talented on both electric (Since I've Been Loving You) and acoustic (Rain Song) and his playing on White Summer is excellent

Ritchie Blackmore - I can't believe no-one mentioned him. Just listen to the solo in Child In Time if you disagree.

Dave Gilmour - 5 worRAB: Shine On You Crazy Diamond

Nuff said.

Jeff Beck is one of my favourite guitarists. I'm not sure if anyone would consider him the "greatest" guitarist, but his contribution to blues rock, heavy metal, and jazz fusion is not something to go unrecognized. Beck was one of the first guitarists to experiment with distortion in the 60s. He mostly uses his fingers and the whammy bar on his guitar to make different sounRAB, and doesn't rely heavily on electronic effects (but uses the wah pedal often). He has also played with a nuraber of notable musicians, including Kate Bush, Stevie Wonder, Roger Waters, Mick Jagger. Beck was also asked to join banRAB such as: The Rolling Stones and Pink Floyd but declined.

Very understandable, I realize most of his solos on electric are kind of monotonous and neanderthal[ish] but definately check out his accoustic stuff; it might change your mind duder.

Yes, Cobain is the best. At his style, fame, death, etc. There is no best, (in my opinion). Only the best of the best, and the best at they're style of music. A personal favorite, one of our influences, etc., is everyone's Best, therefore, who is the best?

It's a bit harsh to say that about Petrucci if you haven't heard much by him. For example, his song Glasgow Kiss is pretty cool - it carries emotion IMO.
