Ultimate Guide To Folding@home

I can't believe how many inactive members there are.

But you've been inactive since: 11.13.05

...that's not strictly true, my girlfriend (Dutch)

3 Dutch 13372 129

has ambushed my two computers and is contributing to an other folding@home team..so when I , sometime in the near future, in the holst of the night, change the team number back to 34905 and pray she doesn't notice ..then I would still be contributing to the team with multi processors... it just seemed a good idea. In the end every work unit that gets folded, goes to wards the good cause. It's just more fun when everyone is playing on an even playing field :) The spirit of competition...thought it might encourage a few sports to see if their computers have got what it takes...

:)

That sucks I checked the team stats and got the same results as you all the stuff done is gone. The units complete seem to have been wiped from the user stats too. Its really weird.

Nothing on the F@H homepage about it either.

I almost always notice the size of the units I get because whenever I leave my computer I open the display and put it full screen.

I'm sure theres an easier way to explain this prog.

To much abracadabra in this thread to me. Thanks to Slinger i had it working in a few minutes, while reading this thread only gave my headaches.

You have got to remember that theres a lot of foreign non geeks on this board who would like to contribute as well.

Just my 2 cents :)
if they don't understand they can post here and ask ;)

How about you read the first post carefully again.

i'll add a link to the download page for people running other versions, i just put that up as somehting to put on the page the now.

i know the spelling a bit dodgy the now, i done it at about 12.30 last night.

I've noticed that F@H does some very strange things with the system tray. If you click on it to see the display it often screws up all the tooltips. I assume it is somehow messing up the handles (what windows uses to identify resources) so you get the tooltip associated to a different prog.

It is probable that when your other prog has closed, it has sent a message to windows asking for it's icon to be removed from the system tray. But if the handles are messed up it is likely that it has inadvertently asked for a different icon to be removed, in this case the F@H icon. Subsequently, windows notices that the owner of the correct icon has gone away, so windows removes that icon too.

Can't be sure this is what is happening, but it is a reasonable guess.

No need to reboot, simply stop the task from within task manager then start it again from your start menu (presumably it is in Programs/Startup).

And a big WELCOME for a new folder on out stats page !
