Ultimate Guide To Folding@home

Just started a tinker, this CAN'T BE SERIOUS!

On an Athlon XP 3200, this thing won't finish until next January!

Is there anyway to kill the current project and start new one?

It was just a thought.

What sort of crash is it? BSOD, reboot or just freeze?

I used to find that my system would just freeze when running F@H, until I raised Vcore. Other than that it was usually alright, except if it got fairly hot after about an hour of game playing, and then the same thing would happen. Cured that problem too.

And a big WELCOME for a new folder on out stats page !

  J'Pol has joined the ranks with his Athlon 1200

His poor machine must have been chewing for days on that big 71 point Tinker :D

Tough to swallow, those WUs, huhhh J'Pol ? :P

I think I'll just pause my hard earned little weeny WU until the server comes back up.
If I'm gonna get stuck with these damn Tinker units at least I want credit for them.

Lamsey...last I looked I was still 1000 points ahead of you.
I believe that I can mosey along in this lane for a while longer before you are inconvenienced. :P

Since your processor only has one Floating Point Unit, and most of the work is done by the FPU, you will see very little advantage. Pandegroup actually prefer that you don't run a HT processor in this way.

If you really want to run 2 copies you can do so:

You have to make a completely separate folder for each copy.

Create a new folder (call it something like Folding2) and copy just the console executable into it. If you copy anything else it may not work.

Now start a command prompt, change to the new folder, and run the console program. There will be no config file so it will think this is the first run, consequently it will automatically run the config. I've never found the need to use the -local setting.

It will ask you if you want to change the advanced settings as part of the config. The only thing you need to make sure is different is the machine ID - set it to 2. It will also ask you if you want to install it as a service - it's a good idea to do this.

If you decide to install it as a service, you should stop the program immediately after completing the config (press ctrl-c a couple of times), then go to control panel/admin tools/services and start the service.

Any 1 havin' probs.I have a error cant connect to work server(results).I think my firwalls messed up. :)
It happens some times if the server is down for maintenance. As long as you can get another WU you don't have firewall problems. The completed WU will go eventually.

And to spam4... Try it out. Its not as complicated as it looks at first.
OK - I'll hook it up when I get back home........but is it possible to leave a cybercafe running it off 20 PC's?
