Ultimate Guide To Folding@home

lol lynx and ariel u guyz dont need to do all tht....

just download the FAH ONE-CLICK and edit the .cfg and put ur name...and with one click it will installl as a service...

(i use this for borging other computers  ;) )

LINKS:

To Install Folding the easiest and fastest way on a Windows XP/W2K machine, use the One-Click Install:

If you are running XP/XP Home/W2K(all versions) on a single cpu computer, do this:

1. Download the One-Click FAH Install (New Client and New Core)here .
2. Unzip the file to a floppy or to a directory (folder) on the desktop.
3. Edit the client.cfg with notepad and change "Wedo" to your folding username. Only use notepad to edit the client.cfg as WordPad, Word, or any other word processing program will mess up your config file!
4. Click the .exe file.

Poof, your folding.

To get other's to fold for you with this:

Download the zip file, edit the client.cfg using notepad, re-zip the file, email the .zip file to everyone and talk them through unzip and click of the .exe file.

or....

Copy the .exe and edited client.cfg to a floppy/cdrom/pen drive and give them to everyone on the planet (except me, I already have it).

You get the idea....

To Install Folding the easiest and fastest way on a Dual CPU or a P4 with HT machine running Windows XP or W2K:

You will do everything noted in the above section except use the Dually/HT version of the One-Click:

The Dually version, OC-FAH-Dually.exe can be downloaded here .

The only other change is that there are two client.cfg files to edit, both of which need your username (again, use notepad to edit this file). The client.cfg's have different names, but don't worry, when you hit the .exe after editing the One-Click changes the names of the files and copies them into the correct directories.

Win9x One-Click

Lamsey....look out, Linx will soon be overtaking you... :) You will have to add another processor I am afraid
He he, I've already got another processor waiting to go into service as soon as I've got my water cooling sorted out (and a little more space).

I was tempted to try out all this stuff but you people all scare me (specially with that thread in the lounge of "do you?" etc...,)

anyway - is it an automatic thing you just set your PC up for as I'd be more than willing to put all the PC's in this cyber cafe (in Thailand atm) onto it

Woot, finished my first WU, was a 1000 one, only took like 8 hours on my athlon XP 1900, but yet the I'm doing a 2500 on my Athlon XP 3200+ and I'm still at 934/2500 after 24 hours???!!!???
Lots of things affect how long a particular wu takes, not just the number of steps. You may have a very simple molecule with 1000 steps, or a very complex molecule with the same number of steps. Obviously there are a lot more ways a complex molecule can fold, so the process takes much longer. But you should also get a lot more points for the complex one.

Don't know if this is a good idea...no one will ever catch lynx or virtual...

so...why not start a new team for members that have only one CPU ? :D

the EOC stats have just been updated to conterbalance the new points changes recently made by stanford. see Here for details.

so looks like alot of people lost there colour the had.
and the team also lost its colour. :(

Any 1 havin' probs.I have a error cant connect to work server(results).I think my firwalls messed up. :)
It happens some times if the server is down for maintenance. As long as you can get another WU you don't have firewall problems. The completed WU will go eventually.

I'll even let you have a chance. I have taken one of my machines offline. :)

if your machine has sse commands, then go to your startup folder, and alter then folding at home run command, and add the -advmethods switch, this should give u mostly gromacs, which use optimisations, where as the tinker core doesnt, thats why they are slower.

Dang...even with the switch I get very few Gromacs...it's killing me here.

My last Gromac was on Friday I think...since then nothing but little, slow, 400 sized WUs. They take forever....

why dont you just update the first page of the old topic?

{I}{K}{E}

btw. wasnt this spammed before on all the worlds?

I move this to the lounge because I think it fits there better.

 But I finally moved into 9th place the other day:cry:

I can't believe how long it is taking to catch up to all the inactive members ahead of me, really makes me feel inferior:blushing:

No idea, your using the graphical version. I use the command line only version, and I have it set in the background to run as a service. Thus if I need to stop it, all I have to do is use the Net commands in the command prompt, and I just have a link to the FAH log, and the info log to check my progress.

Quite handy.
