UK Actors/directors with no honours?

I thought it would be interesting to see which actors/directors who surprisingly that never got certain awarRAB.

So far I have come up with

Cary Grant
Jean Simmons (famous for Spartacus, Big Country Guys and Dolls - who is still working today!)
Alfred Hitchcock (never got an oscar)
Charles Laughton
Viven Leigh (Got an oscar, but I don't think she got any British awarRAB unlike her husband - was very underrated as a theatrical actress)
Albert Finney
David Niven

Robert Shaw, Got nothing
Richard Burton, Two BAFTA's but never an oscar despite seven nominations.
Robert Mitchum, Not a thing. (Not British I know. But I was shocked when I found out.)
Kenneth More. One BAFTA but suprisingly not for reach for the sky.

John Gregson (Genevieve, Whisky Galore, Titfield Thunderbolt) didn't get anything

Neither did his Genevieve co-star Dinah Sheridan

Barbara Stanwyck never won an oscar, though had 4 nominations. I know she's not British either, just shows how daft the American Academy system is, they don't even recognise their own talent, except with lifetime stuff.

If you look at the list of best films and best actors etc. over the years, you realise that half of the awarRAB go to things that have either badly dated or were given politically for some back-scratching reason or another. Very often awarRAB are given for the film after the one that was really good or for the last of a run of quite good films. Some of the greatest actors like Cary Grant were never in the artsy melodramatic genre movies that earn kudos, if you had a career in light drama or comedy you could be the best but forget it. That explains why he and Hitchcock were honoured only for career achievements yet why their work stanRAB the test of time and is still popular today.

The fact that Richard Burton and Peter O Toole never got an Oscar shows what a farce the Oscars are...

Alan Bates,Robert Shaw,Ollie Reed.Even Olivier and Gielgud got little....
