Types of cartoons that should be brought back

I was thinking about that today, and trying to come up with teams. Here is what I have so far.

Team Bravo - old school team with team captain Johnny Bravo, Dexter, Powerpuff Girls

Team Grim - stars of recent comedy shows, with team captain Grim, team captain puppet master Mandy, Billy, Numbuh 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, Mac, Blue, the boy and monkey from Gym Partner Is A Monkey.

Team Evil - villains of comedy shows old and new, headed Hector Con Carne and Boskov, Skarr, Dr. Ghastley, Mandark, Delightful Children From Down the Lane, Mr. Boss, the Tolietnator.

I would have to add and subtract to balence them out, and I might have 4th team of classic Hanna Barbara characters. At the very least have HB characters make guest appearances every episode. I would also like to put Ed, Edd, n Eddy on the show, but I don't know what team to put them on, either Team Bravo or Team Grim. That show comes between two eras of Cartoon Network.

Interesting, Zoombie. The only thing about those teams is that most of those characters/shows came out around the same time, give or take a couple of years. Unless you're up on your history, you're not going to see much of a difference between Team Grim and Team Bravo. If it were me, I would combine teams Bravo and Grim into a single team of Cartoon-Cartoon stars, and I would make the bad guys the new Really Rottens. As for a third team, why not a Team Toonami/Miguzi with characters from those shows? The only problem that I see with that is with the exceptions of Megas XLR, and Ben 10, most of CN's action shows are acquisitions from outside studios.

I was thinking about a Toonami team as well, but I wasn't sure what their association with Cartoon Network studios are. Since most of them are from Warner Brothers, I guess they could have the rights to use them.

I just thought of a way to use HB characters, every episode an HB character(s) would be a guest commentators, giving color analyst on the games, and recalling their experience in the Laff A Lympics. Four HB characters would be regulars, one will be the play by play man, and three would be side line reporters.

I do wish they'd come back with 5 minute "gag" cartoon shows or "variety" shows. Granted, most of the ones in the past were merely collections of theatrical cartoon shorts, but I'd still like to see them make a comeback, maybe with a new spin to them occasionally.

Rocky and Bullwinkle is a good example of a "variety" show made for TV, and I liked the idea of ongoing serials structured as 5-minute episodes.

Well, Tom and Jerry Tales was a step in the direction. Back to the old fashioned cat and mouse basics with minimal dialogue and lots of cartoony gags. It wasn't great, but there was certainly room for improvement.

Then the execs came in and deficated all over the premise. From what I've seen and heard season 2 is taking the show in an entirely different direction, with little resemblence to the classic Tom and Jerry cartoons. Excuse me while I go throw up.

Action shows featuring adult characters. It seems that after power rangers hit it big, most of the action shows on tv (save for the DCAU) had kids or teens as the heroes (X-men Evolution, Kim Possible, Totally spies, just to name a few), but what happened to adult characters like duke, matt tracker (from m.a.s.k.), Ace McCloud (centurions) and other heroes like that? If their afraid of alienating the kids who want a character who's more like them they can have a kid sidekick, or even have a kid/teen be the main character to a supporting cast of adults (A la ninja turtles).

I think you may be partly right there. I also think the success of the Spongebob franchise and its touted appreciation with "older" demographics during its peak in popularity may be attributed to the fact that Spongebob age is indescernable (well, most of the time). The only difference is that Spongebob can more easily be defined as a child. The a similar case Rocko in Rocko's Modern Life, though that character was clearly a twenty-something adult (and an immigrant!). While still a kid's show, it helps widen the demographic of those who can enjoy the cartoon.
