TX is being corrupted by unknown 3rd party app

Got my TX today. After hotsync, there is no keyboard or anything on the bottom third of the unit. Did hard reset and got it back to out of the box normal. Now, all of my research tells me that one of my 3rd party apps is screwing things up. I was also told to find the back up file containg my 3rds party apps and rename and remove it from my desktop. Then resync and one by one install apps until I find the corrupting one. Here is the problem: I can't find the the backup file in my laptop. Here is what PALM troubleshooting guide says--

"After backing up your data with a HotSync operation, perform a hard reset, which erases all applications and returns your device to its factory state (learn about the hard reset).
If this fixes the problem, you can be fairly sure the trouble stems from third-party applications or corrupted files.
Rename your Backup folder to "Backup.old". Your Backup folder is in your device's User Folder on your computer.
Perform a HotSync operation to restore the personal data in your built-in applications.
Note: Because you renamed the original Backup folder (which contains your third-party applications) to "Backup.old", none of your third-party applications will be restored to your device. A new, blank Backup folder will be created in the User Folder directory.
The HotSync operation will not affect the applications in the original folder that you renamed to "Backup.old".
Begin re-installing third-party applications one at a time: double-click on a single file in the "Backup.old" folder that you moved to your desktop. You may be prompted to choose your handheld's user name."

People, I don't understand any of that stuff. Too technical for me. I have searched long and hard for a back up file and could not find one. There are dozens or Palm related items when I do a basic search, but none of them say backup file. Is there a simple way to get my 3rd party apps out of my palm program and get the basic calendar, contacts, etc installed in my new unit and then slowly reinstall my apps. I would appreciate any help in laymans languange. By the way the wifi works FANTASTIC, but I need my other stuff installed too.
Thanks in advance for any help.

hehehehehe.. fairly simple dude...

1. Go to C:\Program Files\Palm\
Note: Your Username Folder is a yellow folder that is labeled with your hotsync username or the Username that you use in your Palm Desktop Program.
2. Inside it you will find the Backup folder.
3. Rename the Backup Folder to Backup.Old
4. Hard reset your device.
5. And then hotsync. Voila! Issue Resolved. ;)
6. Then start reinstalling your 3rd party apps one by one.

New problem dude. All of a sudden both usb ports fail to recognize new hardware. Any ideas on how to fix these ports before I tackle the hotsync problem. Man what a night.

Both usb ports are still not accepting the new hardware (tx). I managed to sync calendar and contacts before they stopped recognizing the the unit. What is going on, I am really at a loss here. If I plug in the cracle from my old t3, no problem, but the tx is not being recognized. Chimes go off in my lapton as long as it is plugged in and turned on. I have installed and reinstalled the installation disc over a dozen time and still the ports will not accept the hardware. Again, I am at a loss and need help please. Thank.....wfi still work great however.

I fixed everything. First I removed all the Palm software (old one from t3). Then I reinstalled the tx install disc and the ports started recognizing the new hardware and everything started to synce okay. I found the backup files as per djcortfer's instructions, put a new name on them, synced and then started to reinstall the 3rd party apps one by one. The culprit was an old version of datebook5. BTW everyone, it is amazing how many free floating wifi signals there are. This unit just grabs the first one and I am off and running. Many thanks for all of your help.
Aloha
