TX digitiser problems

I'm having problems with the digitiser on my TX. First off, it takes _forever_ to align! Sometimes I have to go through the "Tap the target" process more than 30 times.

Even then, the wretched thing only aligns the main part of the screen, and when I pull up a menu from the bottom bar it can be as much as half a line out of vertical alignment.

Am I the only one who's seen this, and if not, has anyone found a fix for it? It's driving me nuts!

Hmm.... this is interresting.

Normally, the first thing I would have said would to re-calibrate the digitizer but you've already done that.

Have you tried a soft reset?

Last option may be to hard reset, see if it still happens, and if so, something has gone wrong inside. Is it under warranty? If so, you might be able to get another one.

No, you are certainly not the only one who has seen this. The digitizer is of low quality. They all go bad eventually, depending on how aggressivley you use it. You may wish to exercise your warranty. You paid for that warranty when you bought the device, make Palm fix it!

Alternatively, you may wish to try Dmitry's "PowerDigi". It allows you to calibrate with many targets. It compensates for the fact that the digitizer becomes non linear with usage. It is a real problem solver for many, myself included.

Camski is right, try to do soft and hard resets on your device. Your digitizer will drift depending on how frequent you use it. It will also drift if you use other materials in replace of the stylus. It would also drift if there are corrupted data or application that has affected already the configuration of the system and in this case even a hard reset will not resolve this issue. Last option, send the handheld for repair.

Thanks folks, yes I'd tried soft and hard resets at various times, but it didn't seem to make any difference. And I'd been thinking of chucking it back at Palm under the warranty, but thought I'd find out if it was a "known feature" before I did that!

I'm now off to try PowerDigi, and if that doesn't help, DigiFix. I also took a peek at MySkin, but that's a 1.6MB download and looks a bit like overkill for my purposes.

This is my second TX - the first went for an uninsured overnight swim in a stream, I'm sad to say - and is relatively new, so if these proggies don't fix it, it IS going back under warranty...

[Later...] I've now tried both, and the bottom 10-15mm of the screen is still 4-5mm out of alignment. PowerDigi's test mode is very useful here - I calibrated the TX on the medium setting, then tested it, and the drift is quite clear. As soon as the stylus gets within the area normally occupied by the virtual silkscreen, it starts to drift off, and by the time it reaches the area when the menu usually is, it's off by almost the full depth of the menu.
