go to an auto parts store and get a basic repair manual for your car. If the CEL info is not in there, ask the store if they will use their OBD reader and tell you what needs repair or what parts store does it for free

i would check to see that all your wire harness under the hood are plugged in all the way... besides if the light is not on when they check it it will not give a code.. then they will probally try and bull you. Auto zone and Checker will check the light for free if it is on, so they can sell you the part

rpm's dropped for a moment? I have a 1995 Mitsubishi Diamante LS. My car has been driing perfectly for two years-never once a problem-until now. I was driving down my street at low speed (about 30-35mph) and noticed my check engine light flash on for about 4 seconds. I freaked out and immeadiatly turned around to go home. About 2 minutes later the light flashed again (for about 3-4 seconds), and I noticed that my rpm's dropped slightly-then immeadiatly regulated fine.

I parked it for 15 minutes, then took it for a drive around the block, and it has not repeated the problem (neither the CEL came on nor the rpm dropped).

Im still freaking out on why it would do that even though both times were under 4 seconds.

I think I need a check engine computer diagnostic-but Im not sure if that is what I should do-they are costly & there are no trustworthy mechanics around here. Im hoping to get some ideas on here so when they "diagnose" my car, I dont have to have EVERYTHING looked at.

PS-My oil and fluids (trans, etc) are all clear and perfect, and I have oil change "on the dot" regularly with the high mileage oil.
