Two stories I’m working on right now?
At the moment, I’m working on two books. I don’t want to give away too much, but here’s the gist of both stories:
Book 1: A 17-year-old girl meets her biological father (the man that she *called* her dad died about ten years ago). If that isn’t too much to handle already, she also finds out that she has a little sister. (Yes, both girls are fathered by the same man.)
Book 2: A crime/mystery that has a hint of romance in it. It centers around a detective (male) and a struggling singer (female). Also, it takes place during the mid-1930s.
Now for the questions:
(Book 1)
Is it cliché to have a girl meet her father after so many years? If so, then this story will be shelved.
(Book 2)
What should be the crime that takes place?
Since this story ties together several genres, what common clichés associated with these genres should I avoid (i.e. Romance: Jealous other women)?
Would it be cliché to have the detective chase after the singer at the end of the story? (She gets an offer from a record company overseas, and after thinking over it for a bit, he decides to follow her.)
