Two Months - Still Undiagnosed.

Because I couldn't find anywhere to post something undiagnosed, I guessed this would be the most suitable place - and if not, sorry; and sorry for the length of this post in advance.

Since December 3rd I have been quite unwell, just over 2 months now. I'll go through everything, sorry:

December 3: Nausea, loss of appetite and the feeling of being full set in, or, I noticed it this day at least.
December 11: I noticed pains in my RUQ. It wasn't that bad, so I kind of ignored it for a bit.
December 12: I found an area on my right side, just below the rib cage, that would hurt when I pressed on it gently. This lasted about five days, before it "went away".

In mid December, I visited a doctor, because the pain I experienced first in my RUQ had spread to pretty much my whole upper abdomen (not all areas hurt at the same time, is random), as well as my back and sides.

Because of a strong family history of Gallstones, I had an ultrasound performed the next day to see if I had them. And thankfully, I didn't. She also performed an ultrasound on my kidneys, left liver lobe (?), spleen, pancreas and bile duct.

This all came back clear, and so I was back at square one.

Through the Christmas/New Year break, I did notice a decrease in pain and the disappearance of the loss of appetite. But it unfortunately returned, stronger than before. So...

I returned to a different doctor, and he took a blood test for FBC, CRP, E/LFTs, Lipase and Glucose - I hope I got those right - but they all came back clear.

Again, back to square 1, and the pain continues to increase, as well as the on and off return of the loss of appetite.

So early January, I once AGAIN returned to another doctor. He GUESSED I could have a stomach ulcer - but he did no testing to confirm this. He decided to give me a two week trial on the drug, Nexium, which, if you don't know of it, stops the acid production (or something like that), and therefore, gives the ulcer time to heal.

Now, while I was on this, I did notice a slight decrease in pain and I could finish most dinners, something I couldn't do before. But please take into account, that this previously happened over the Christmas/New Year break, and therefore, I have no idea whether it was by chance, or by the medicine working. Also, through this time, the pain I could feel when I pressed on an area, returned, but it would appear in completely different spots (sometimes on my left side, sometimes on my right, in different areas too). This doesn't happen often, though.

Anyway, eventually this two week trial ran out, and when that happened, my doctor wanted to see ,me again, to either prescrible more Nexium, or choose a new path.

So I returned and discussed with him all that I have just said. He decided, because it MIGHT have worked, he would place me on a further eight weeks of the drug, that may or may not be working.

I had good hopes for this. And now, another week and a half, I see NO change whatsoever - not even some kind of decrease in pain. I also have lost the appetite, once again. To this date, I have lost 5.5kg in total, and am not overweight, nor was I overweight to start with. I am pretty healthy.

Now, I feel depressed because this pain (can prevent me from walking at times, that's how bad it is), has changed my views on life and my future. I cannot study and cannot function at home, either. Each day, I feel as though I am slipping further into a depressive state, and I have pretty much convinced myself that this is far serious and I see NO end to it, whatsoever.

Though this is only pain, I never would have expected it to be making me so upset about it.

So, all in all, thanks for reading that. If you have any similar stories/experiences, I would love to hear of them, and how you got through it - or even any ideas as to how to help myself, would be GREATLY appreciated.

I just hate feeling this way, and am not sure how much longer of this undiagnosed pain I can deal with - my life is going downhill and it feels like nothing will EVER fix this. I can't get on with life, like this. Sorry if I sound like I'm whinging too much - cause I'm sure I am - I just needed to get that off mny chest, big time!!

Thanks.

Mikayla. x

Sorry for the size of the post..again.

First of all i don't see why this doctor would prescribe nexium to you without the proper testing. Obviously he believes you have acid reflux, which may be the case but why not be a hundred percent sure. You should call his office and request theat he does a barium xray, this test will confirm if you have acid reflux. Also another possibility may be helicobacter pylori which is a bacteria in the stomach. Request a breath test, this will confirm if you have bacteria. Do you have gas? are you burping a lot? what other symptoms are you experiencing?

I don't understand either why he would treat me for something I may or may not have, either. He did not mention anything to do with Acid Reflux, either, only that he thinks it may be Stomach Ulcers - he even said "He doesn't know what the problem is.".

No burping or gassy out of the usual - which isn't a lot, haha. Only symptoms I have had recent days, is pain in upper abdomen, including the sides and back. I also don't eat much, cause I am quite nauseated.
