Two issues with '96 Electra Glide Standard Please Help

Got a '96 EG Standard yesterday and I notice two issues.

#1 Brand new battery being dragged down. What are the circuit breakers behind headlight controlling? Are there any other fuses on the bike?

#2 Horn doesn't work. Where is it located? Are there any fuses to it?

New guy to Harley. I'd appreciate any help.

check under your left side cover in front of the saddlebag. fuse block may be in there on the 96 model.

horn should be inside a chrome cover on the left side of engine mounted in the center outside of the jugs. make sure it is plugged in properly. they will shake loose sometimes.

Not sure about the battery problem. By "dragging down" do you mean it cranks slowly even when charged? If so, remove battery cables and clean both ends, as well as the junction block under a rubber boot on the starter.

The headlight has a 15A breaker, not a fuse. I had a '96 RK and don't recall it having any fuses at all, but it may have had one maxi-fuse. I no longer have a manual for it so I can't check, but I recommend that you buy one.

I would check the connections on the horn and clean them. They are notorious for getting corroded.

The battery seems OK for now, apparently It wasn't fully charged and I was told it was.

As far as the horn goes, I don't think it's getting power to it. Checked it with a meter (tester) and got nothing.

What should I clean connections with?

Thanks guys,

If you are not fammilliar with Harleys might be best to throw a few bucks at it and have a good shop check it over to be sure all is in working order and safe to ride.

Clean contacts with CRC contact cleaner.
Buy a service manual and a parts manual.
And if you dont have one, an owners manual.

Every time I work on the electrics, after cleaning the sockets, connectors, plug wires, etc. I use dielectric grease or silicone compound to seal out moisture and prevent corrosion.

Good advice on the dielectric grease. You do have a circuit breaker under the seat as well but most of the power goes to your fairing by a 3 wire cable. If I remember the wires are red and are maybe 10 ga or so. they feed power to all the circuit breakers/fuses under the fairing. As others have said, get a service manual and a parts manual. The parts manual is excellent for identifying things and seeing how things fit together.

Goodluck

Got the horn to work with a little contact cleaner and also found out my stator is grounding.

Thanks for all the help guys!
