Two Generations. One Show.

That's news to me. I was under the impression that people who grew up with the Turtles loved the 2003 series. Yes, the two shows are different but there's also the 1990 live-action feature that's similar to the 2003 series. So, people who grew up with the Turtles have nothing to complain about. It's not as if its a total departure from what they grew up with.
 
The old TMNT comic book fans love the new series. The rest of the fans...eh, it's a mixed bag, really. A lot of people prefer the turtles be used only for comedic purposes and not serious storytelling, since that's how they grew up with them.
 
But that's what I was talking about. People who grew up with the cartoon also grew up with the 1990 movie (which was also VERY popular) and that movie was a combo of the cartoons and comics. So, it's not like if the 2003 series is something new for them.
 
Keep in mind a lot of those people who don't watch the new show were only casual Turtle fans to begin with because of the fad.

Ninja Turtles was the "Pokemon" of the late 80's and early 90's, almost every kid was into it just like Pokemon when it first appeared.

A lot of those people weren't really hardcore TMNT fans, they just watched the old toon and have no idea or seen little of the rest of the franchise like the comics, new toon, etc.

Its hard to explain entirely but I'm sure everyone gets what I mean.
 
Yea, I get it and you're right. TMNT like Power Rangers had a huge audience, but only a few became hardcore fans. However, that pretty much applies to everything. Example, The Dark Knight has a huge audience but not everyone is a hardcore fan.
 
It may not be just the tone of the new cartoon that puts off older cartoon fans, it also the lack of any of the familiar characters and story elements from the old show(outside of the main characters), the 1990 movie was a combo of the cartoon(skateboarding, pizza, shell jokes) and comicbook(darker tone, plotlines), the new cartoon is mostly an adaption of the Mirage comic.


Getting back to the subject of shows that was seen by more then one generation, what about;

Tom and Jerry(1975-1982)

Alvin and the Chipmunks(1983-1990)

The Muppet Babies(1984-1990)
