Twilight Samurai

Outstanding film - but then you don't end up top of the RottenTomatoes list for 2004 by being anything less.

It's about a samurai who has given up that lifestyle to work as a bureaucrat and enjoying a simple life with his family. But he is dragged back in to a world of violence by some of those around him. It's not your usual samurai movie, it only has a couple of very brief confrontations, but it's all the better for it.

Why am I posting this? So you don't all miss it when it's shown on BBC Four on Monday (as part of the Asian Invasion thing)

I've watched this when it first came out and was impressed. Still impressed by its showing on Monday (videoed it and watched it yesterday). As you say, it's a Samurai film that's a bit different, showing the more tender side of a character as a virtue. Well worth watching.
