Twilight - Eclipse opening over a week after the US

Whats up with the new Twilight movie opening over a week after the US? These sort of movies (especially as a sequel with such a rabid fanbase) normally open worldwide on pretty much the same date. It opens June 30th in the US and not officially until July 9th here (previews on 4th and 5th). I'm not such a hardcore fan that I can't wait, but it annoying to have to wait, much prefer it when the 'big' summer movies open the same times as the states. Makes it easier to avoid spoliers, etc.

Iron Man 2 opened in the UK (and in other countries) a week before the US, but did you hear them complaining? And it's only a week...movies used to open over there and take their sweet time crossing the Atlantic - for instance in 1984 Ghostbusters and Gremlins were summer movies in America, but over here they came out around Christmas! It wasn't until the 1990s that the gap started to get shorter.

This happens quite often actually. I remember The Dark Knight opening a week later over here, than in the States. Sometimes it's the reverse, like with Iron Man 2 recently.

It's only just over a week, it's not really a big deal, is it? Think of the people that have to wait months extra for films to open in their country.

Not that i'm bothered cause I'll be in America anyway but I thought they'd release it on the same day like they did last year.

The Twilight films are terrible, I fully understand why there are so many people who hate it. Good films don't get shown for long at the cinemas and then terrible films like this get shown cos 13/14 year old girls go mad for it. It's not going to be remembered in years as a good film series, and I'm sure the fans will grow up and realise Let The Right One In and other films are actually brilliant examples of good vampire films :)

Well I was quite suprised with Iron Man 2, not quite sure why it opened here earlier? I know its only a week, but over the last decade we've kinda gotten use to big movies, especially big sequels or big event movies opening at the same date. As for Twilight, i'm actually not that bothered really, I want to see it, but I can wait a week, just thought it was strange given that Twilight fans seems to go ape sh*t for the movies so I can't believe they are going to make UK fans wait a week. Now if it was Sex & The City 2 i'd be p*ssed :D

Maybe its a plan..... get the blokes dragged to the cinema to see this before the World Cup Final on July 11th.

Or look at it the other way, an escape from England fever if we make it that far:p

I agree Twilight Fans are mad. I worked in a cinema last year - opening day (and the midnight showing) I was working. Oh my god. Screaming fangirls running in the cinema - I was selling posters - they went so quickly! I can tell you it was the most exciting, but weird shift I ever had!

Also I got to see the film before everyone :p Staff preview, gotta love em (I miss that now, no more free movies for me!)

I liked the first one I must admit, havn't seen the second, the whole sitting in a cinema with screaming and swooning fangirls was a real put off..

I'll get flak for this, but the fanbase really is quite disturbing. Vampires on the big screen have never seemed so wimpy either..

Some of the fans are very annoying- they call people names if they say Twilight is bad and that they don't like Robert Pattinson etc, which is beyond pathetic. People have something called an opinion! Though there are a group of people who hate the films and dislike Rob etc who do the same to anyone who likes it, which is silly too.

A week!!! You're complaining about a week?!?! i'm sure you'll cope...

Aren't spoilers already out there anyway? The book has been out for ages hasn't it. Surely there wont be any more blatant spoilers on the internet than there are already, just avoid the movie threaRAB on forums and you'll be fine.

I love the Twilight books/films, books more. Maybe it's just the person I am but I could never be that screaming fan girl, I would just be too embarrassed! I would probably be awestruck if I saw one of the actors but people forget that they are not Edward/Bella/Jacob. It must be really annoying for them!
Anyway can't wait for the new film to come out, though i'm not too fussed about having to wait a week longer that America. :)

They try to time releases carefully based on other films that it will be competing with that week. Since different films will be playing in different countries, it may be a tactical decision to release it on a week that they think will be more profitable.

Yeah, that seemed like ages and they are are showing advance previews this time so if people are that desperate they can get tickets for those, I expect they'll be crazy though.
