TV Series 2 disk box sets

I have noticed an increasing amount of TV series coming in 2 parts, disks 1-13 and then 14-24/26.

Other than making more money, is there any reason why this is being done? I really dont agree with it.
 
money making! also i guess there must be a substantial movement from fans who want dvd's of half the series so they can rewatch it due to lack of reruns during the first run of the season.
 
Yeh it's all about the money. If people are stupid enough to buy them they deserve to be ripped off.

Two examples, Lost Series 1 - Vol 1 adn 2 came out seperatley each costing
 
That's not new though is it, Star Trek and Stargate etc have been doing this for years. You can buy the discs seperately as they are shown on tv for about
