tv cable box question?

what are those things called that make the cable box able to receive the remote signals by a cable even when the cable box is not exposed i need one for my tv?
 
I believe you're talking about a UHF remote.

A UHF remote transmits it's commands using RF rather than Infrared so it will work through walls. In order to use a UHF remote, you need to have equipment set up to take a UHF remote.

They do make "remote extenders" which will mimic the same thing.
