I also read a review on a video game magazine, the name escapes me at the moment but they said the movie was pretty good but that the fact that it was animated it looked for "kids" which was not the target audience for the movie.
So they liked it and only negative was a stereotype of cartoon for kids.

I was very excited since it was announced but I knew this could turn out pretty bad, glad to see that it looks like it can be amazing.

Looks interesting enough, I'll check it out when it comes out. Watching the trailer made me wish someone would make a Conan the Barbarian DTV, though.

There was an announcement of it about a year ago and a related announcement from Classic Media, but the first was a "blink and you'll miss it" kind of thing and the second was attached to lots of other stuff that stole the spotlight. However, we did pick up on those on news.rabroad.net (which y'all are reading regularly and searching for cartoon news, right? ;)).

There is a lot of excellent talent involved in the movie, including Tad Stones as the supervising director (we chatted with him here and here about Hellboy Animated). If this movie is half as good as the Hellboy Animated movies, it'll already put it a cut above the competition.

I made a thread about this at another forum I frequent, and nobody knew anything about it. It looks AWESOME. Can't wait to pick it up and check it out. I've seen many people say they will buy the game the same day, so they will pick this up as well. Hopefully that will boost sales big time.

Eh, I don't know; the animation looks fine, but there doesn't seem to be a purpose for this movie aside from "Let's kill lots of dinosaurs in graphic fashion!"

Whattayou, some kinda DINOSAUR LOVER or somethin'? :p

I've never read the comics, but it seems to me that this is really just part and parcel of Turok's gimmick, and definitely the most saleable aspect of his character. There's bits of the Tarzan noble savage and ruler of an untamed land mixed in there, but the dinos seems to be what really sets Turok apart in the end, so it makes sense that they're going to play that up.

Besides, either you're with us or you're with the dinosaurs. It's US or THEM, man!! We gotta GET those DINOSAURS before they GET us!!! Raaaaaarrr!!!!

:D

Similar to the animated Hellboy features and those Stan Lee original movies this seems to have that problem of looking like a Disney-cartoon but pouring on violent content and perhaps a bit too much blood. Yes this is coming from someone who likes the clash of silly and serious that is One Piece but that clash doesn't really help it's mainstream appeal so while it may be shallow to say so... if they really want these movies to sell well then they have to make them look less like children's cartoons. Make the art style as edgy as the content... it seems like common sense.

But with that much blood shed I don't see that one playing on Toonami...

I'm with you on the Stan Lee animated movies, and it didn't help that they were pretty crappy all around. But Hellboy Animated? Those looked more like BTAS than Disney or any of the typical Marvel superhero fare of the 80's to me. Just the fact that they went with a much darker color palette made that show look more mature and less appealing to children.

Can you give an example of a cartoon where you thought the art style was as edgy as the content? About the only candidate I can think of off the top of my head is Aeon Flux, but I'm curious to see what your basis for comparison is. I'm not saying you're wrong -- the character designs from the Turok stills I've seen look a little boring, to my eye -- but I'm also not entirely convinced that it looks like a kid's cartoon. I think the visual standards for kid's cartoons from yesterday and today have changed a bit.

I also thought that Hellboy: Blood and Iron aired with most of the blood intact on Toonami, but I could be wrong about that.

Eh I don't know about that. Turok is a pretty cult franchise that won't really appeal to mainstream audiences who don't remember the games(or some who remember the comics.) Plus you can't get rid of the blood because that is and always has been a major part of Turok.
