FLORIDA — One died and at least 18 others were injured when a driver lost control of a van that flipped several times on the Florida Turnpike, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Troopers said the van rolled on the turnpike in Kenansville, located in the southern Osceola County.
The van was transporting a group of people on its way to a church-related activity when the accident occurred, the Orlando Sentinel said.
According to Sgt. Kim Montes, spokesperson for the Florida Highway Patrol, the van suffered a tire malfunction in the Osceola County around 7 in the evening.
A 46-year-old woman from North Miami died on the spot. In a statement, Montes stressed that survivors were rushed to six hospitals on ambulances and helicopters.
The driver of the van has been identified by FHP as Willem Camille, 42, of Miami. He was seriously injured in the crash.
The FHP has yet to identify the other wounded persons and their conditions were not immeidiately divulged.
