speedy, I actually had a VK2020 in my possession a few days ago... for a few hours. I had to send it back, and exchanged it for a Samsung P300 instead. The outgoing volume was just too low for people to hear me well. While the seller and I were discussing whether the replacement should be another 2020, he called me from it, and the volume was low, but not uselessly low as happened to me. I get the impression that there are glitches with various network equipment, and that the 2020 suffers from inadequate field testing on North American equipment. If you really want a VK, I advise that you stick to sellers who allow exchanges or returns.

This is too bad, because the 2020 was much lighter and had rounded corners -- a more pocketable phone than the P300, despite being essentially the same size. I really wish that it had worked better.

It varies. I haven't gotten one yet myself. I strongly recommend that you carefully read this thread first: http://howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=875156 . It also came up a few times in the VK2010 thread: http://howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=859859 . Oddly, most people's problems there were quite different from the reviews in CNET and PCMAG -- speaker is loud and 1900MHz reception is excellent; 850MHz is only fair.

Either way, you would be taking a risk that your purchase will be mediocre as a phone. I can afford to make one bad purchase this way, so I'll take that risk -- because I might end up with a perfectly usable, fantastically pocketable phone.

Lots of their phones are intended only for the Asian market, and many don't even have the 1900 and 850 MHz frequencies used in North America. Be careful!

No, shipping (to North America) is not free. Most people in the VK2020 thread who ordered from Wapzon wanted it fast, and took the FedEx Expedited shipping (must be at least USD$50). I have not checked to see what cheaper international shipping options there are. It seems to be difficult to tell until you place an order.

I also think you should look into those Lipstick Tube looking Nokia's. The no keyboard thing would really annoy me but it would DEFINATLEY turn heads.

well the 9300 communicator really turns heads, usually its a haha look at that brick followed by a woah, thats sweet....but i still like my siemens sk65..sleek, blackberry and a crosstype keyboard....turns heads like a madman....if u want more insight on the sk65 pm me

FYI, I just found another new, tiny phone, the Pantech C300. It's a tiny clamshell...

It's cheap too. I wouldn't assume that it will last long , but head-turnin' phones don't have to last. :-)

Probably people will disagree with me but when I had the SE W800i, people thought it was a camera and very frequently would stop me and ask me what it was...Jaw dropped a bit when I told them it was a phone...

It is different because of the colour scheme.

if you seem to be so concerned about turning heads, switch to T-Mobile, Get More, get a sidekick, and lose count of how many heads turn. The first day I had my Sidekick 3, I went to the mall, and had 80% of the people that walked by me wander their eyes on my device. I even had a few people ask me what it was. The waitresses that work at Ruby Tuesdays at the mall were amazed by it. I'm tellin ya... If turning heads is a priority to you, and you want the added bonus of saving money on your monthly bill, get a T-Mobile Sidekick 3.

yeah im actually thinking about switching because my cingular contract is finishing in a month or two, is it much better than the sidekick 2?
