I too generally keep my purchases to only phones that I am confident will do the job really well. In this case though, like the other satisfied buyers, I am willing to make a trade-off in order to get the VL2020's extremely small size AND weight. The eye-catching factor was a minor consideration. I want something that's extremely pocketable, both in summer shorts and in a suit jacket.
So, what I'm saying is that, in order to get something tiny and light, I'm willing to settle for something that's almost as bad for voice quality as a CDMA phone.
Yes, if I had known about the Samsung D307 last year, I would have strongly considered it. I was looking for a high-quality messaging device, with EDGE and Bluetooth for when I tether to my notebook. Now that I'm shopping for a tiny summer phone, I'll wait a few months before checking out high-end voice/data devices -- gotta have my 3G when it's available!
If "head-turnin'" equals "tiny", the only remotely close models to the VK2020 that I know of are the Motorola L2 and the Samsung SGH-P300. The L2 is still bigger and heavier though. The P300 is heavier and ugly, but virtually the same size and technically superior ot the VK2020 in many ways (including camera and screen) -- but it lacks 850MHz. Panasonic used to have their G51u, but it's long gone now. No NA carrier picked it up, so sales were very limited.
