Tungsten T5 won't turn on

I have a Tungsten T5, which was purchased in February of '05, that will not turn on. I have attempted to soft reset, hard reset and turn on using all known buttons and methods. It just won't turn on. It has been nearly 22 hours since this occurred. Anybody have an idea? Is it dead or just in a coma?

It's dead.

Now what you need to double check - and this seems common with the UC connector - is the power cable actually making contact and charging?

Double check the contacts on the connector and make certain that you can see 3 pins on the far right hand "block".

Two on either side and one on top - this is the charging connector.

If not - then it's off to a Brick and Mortor to try a new charger.

Might be worth it to try one anyway....and then if not light - call the mortuary cuz it's time to bury it.

Thanks for the reply. I know that it had been charging and that it was at 100% at the time that it went 'belly up'. What I don't understand is how it could go from working perfectly to...dead. I am not an incredibly patient person when it comes to things like this, but I also don't want to write this thing off too soon. I paid alot of money for it to last for only a year. Any idea what went wrong?

Well if you are 100% certain then most probably the connection between the battery and the mother board failed. Had the unit been jostled about or perhaps it just gave up the ghost.

You could try contacting Palm and they usually charge around $125 to repair most anything......but if it's a simple issue of a connection then it might be half that. :(

i had a similar problem w/my 1 1/2 year old t3. starting on friday, it wouldn't turn on at all or even make the chirp sound when you put it in the cradle. my online research found nothing i haven't tried before except for instructions on how to take it apart.

since i had nothing to lose, i was able to open the thing up today (a little tricky) and discovered that when the case was open, it would turn on. however, if i closed everything up again, it was gone and the back was hot. figured there was a short somewhere, so i opened it up again, placed a sticky note...yes that's right...a cut-to-size post-it sticky note between the motherboard and the back of the screen, closed it back up and EUREKA, it works!

i've heard of using baling wire & duct tape, but i can now add post-its to the list!

you could try googling for instructions to open your t5 up and see if you get anywhere with it. at the very least, have fun disecting it.

Interesting idea. I was considering it, but, I'll admit to being a touch timid about taking it apart. But nothing to lose, I guess. I'll give that a try. Thanks for the heads-up.

my only warning on taking it apart is not to force anything. i was being super careful, but still managed to bend & scratch the metal case. nothing major, but it doesn't look as pretty as it once did.

don't get in a hurry either. i think it took me about 30-45 min to get it apart the first time, but i'm sure the t3 is harder cause of the slider. see if there are some detailed instructions out there. i've looked a little, but i haven't found any yet for the t5.

it sounds like the prime idea to upgrade your PDA. Now to decide which one to go to, for that I am not the expert. I am still running my T5 and really liking it since Palm upgraded the software. If you don't want to upgrade, you could go to ebay or Froggle.com to search for a T5 to purchase....
