Tune Up Price? 1999 Ford Contour Manual 95k miles HELP?

I have a Ford Contour from 1999, and is on good conditions. The milage is 95 2400 miles, and I have to make its tune up by next week! My mechanic charges me 180, but i found out that my coworker;s son spends only 42 bucks on his Honda Civic 2005!

what is the average for a tune up? does it change if the car has auto or manual transmission? is the price my mechanic asking just? or is he just charging me more because he doesnt charge me too much, and he sees this time as a good chance to charge me more?


please need help!
 
Ask the shop to itemize the individual repairs they're charging for. What are they replacing? Spark Plugs and how much does that cost? Etc. "Tune-Up" is a general term and does not specify exactly what work is to be done. So your basically trusting the repair shop to give you your money's worth of things they think need doing.
