I have been trying to set up my 40 gallon tank for discus for about 6 weeks now. The pH of my tap water was 7.9 when I filled it, and I have done a 5 gallon water change, replacing it with 6.0 deionized water,once a week for 5 weeks. After all this, the water's pH was still at 7.3-4. I used discus buffer powder, it lowers the pH to about 6.7 (one teaspoon) but went right back up the next day to 7.3 (btw is that stuff safe for the tank?) I have driftwood in the tank, have been using instant amazon with every water change. I have no idea how to maintain the pH will someone please explain this?
