trying to put stuff on my phone via usb?

my phone came with the cable that connects the phone to the computer through a usb. when i plug it in, it sais that its installing a new device, then it sais its now ready to use...

so i open up 'my computer' thinking thats where the folder would be, but there's nothing there. what am i doing wrong?
im using windows vista home premium

my phone is a LG shine
