Trying to print photos that I've downloaded from the net, but they come out

pixalated; Why? I've got a HP Photosmart Pro B8850 printer and use the best paper I can find. Do I need to resize the photo? Why would otherwise crystal clear pics pixlate when they should be clear as a bell? How do I prevent this from happening?
