Trying to pick my first Ducati?

My first bike was a 98 cbr 600. I got rid of it for money and practicality, but now I want another one. I love the looks of monsters. I want something of comparable performance to my last bike. I would really really like fuel injection. Engine size doesn't matter, I can handle a 1000 or a 600 or anything in between. I'm an experienced rider. Any suggestions on model and year? Buying tips? Oh, and my budget is small so keep that in mind with suggestions. Thanx

Hey, if you want a Ducati monster, don't care about the size and price is an issue--I suggest you call around to every Ducati dealership in your region and try to find a used 696. You'll probably be able to find a bike that's almost new, in excellent shape, well under $10,000.00 out the door with a new Italian leather jacket and a cool helmet. You'll still have plenty of power and gallons of road holding fun. (Me, I'd go for a new GT1000 Touring, but I am old and fat.)

I hesitate to mention this but the Suzuki Gladius is a Japanese copy of the 696 for three thousand dollars less. The Buell Lightning XB9SX is very comparable to the big Monster, easier to service and costs a few grand less than the big Duc.

Remember, no matter what you ride, you only have to do two things--watch where you are going and keep riding the darned motorcycle.
