Trying to help a banana plant recover, can I use the large florescent light

from a fish tank? Or do plants need a different kind of florescent light? I don't have a window to set it in that gets much light, most are on the northern side of the house.

(I did have it in the "green house" portion of our enclosed porch, but the heater seems to not be working right and may have gotten too cold at night during the recent cold snap.)
