Trying to get on Suboxone

toxic

I stopped all my opiates last Sun.@ 5:00pm for an apt with my pain guy on Wed. in order to start suboxone. However, when I showed up to the apt I was not even close to in withdrawls. He sent me home and said to call when they get bad. Its 24 hrs later, and I actually feel better. I am a chronic pain patient who was taking 800mg of oxycontin, 180mg of oxy ir, and 150mcg fent patch all at one time, and stopped all sunday. I have known withdrawls in my time, so Im baffled as to why nothing now. Other than extreme weakness, thats it after 4 days. I should be half dead by now. Any suggestions?

not really sure .... But, maybe it's still in you body. Is it like Methadone it gets built up in your system?

First of all, you do NOT have to be in withdrawal to start Suboxone. I would strongly suggest you get another doctor.

Or, go back and just request that you start now. Being on that many opiates, you're going to feel something, soon, perhaps your body is just taking a little bit longer, who knows but you don't want to "suddenly" be in horrible withdrawal, right? You said that you know all about it, so why chance it?

Fentanyl takes a bit longer to leave your system, so I'm betting that's the reason you don't feel like death right now :)

When I started Suboxone, I had used the night before. My doctor said I did not have to be in horrible withdrawal to start. Some doctors "want" you to be in withdrawal so you will always know what it is like, however you've been there...done that so just tell your doc you want to start. If he is hesitant, I'd go find another one.

Good luck,

I was unclear, it.s now been 10 days and I have yet to feel any withdrawls, and I have yet to take anything. Other than my mind racing 200mph, nothing. Is it possible to stop that amount of opiates after so long and just not get withdrawls. I still feel great. As far as the suboxone is concerned, why take it if I dont feel bad. Years ago I took a suboxone I aquired, waited 36hrs., took it, and within 30min. I was in the worst precipitated withdrawls imaginable. Thats why I really wanted to have as much of the opiates out of my system this time. However, if I dont need them, why take them. Ive just never known anybody to quit cold without getting sick. Any ideas?

You're absolutely right. Why take it is you feel fine. Here are some reasons to take Suboxone...

* You are a chronic relapser and feel you may eventually relapse again
* You are trying to get off opiates and need it for short term
* You are trying to get off opiates and need it for long term

I am baffled as to why you haven't had any withdrawals, however I wouldn't complain lol.

I hope everything works out for you. Keep in touch - let us know how it all goes.
