trying to find the name or author of the book i read?

the book begins in a small town where a person is looking out a window into the forrest. they hear a noise which turns out to be the animals running out of the forrest and the birds flying away. during the book the skye changes colour and weird stuff grows all over the plants and trees. All the people start dying but return to life almost like the living dead. I think some children survive and gather in a pub or church if im not mistaken please help
