trying to decode a chevy vin engine block?

I've been trying to find out what exactly is the engine I just bought. I've been to a million websites and all I come up with is engine size. The cast number is 3970010 that tell's me it's either a 327 or a 350. The block vin is V0504CMF and all I find is which plant it was assembled. Also another number just under the vin and that is 17B576440. That one I can't find anything on. Does anyone know what this engine is and what it came out of. I'm planning on dropping this into my 1962 Impala. Before I do so I want to go thru it and make sure I get all the correct parts. Thanks
