Truly Awful Performances By A Lead Actor

Well Keanu in any of his lead roles really. He's the main reason why I can't stand the Matrix movies.

I'd agree with the Brandon Routh comments. He seemed so concerned about emulating Christoher Reeve's voice (which he kind of nailed) that he forgot to bring anything else to the role. Mind you the script didn't give him much of a chance.

Hayden Christensan was appauling in Star Wars, but then so was everyone else. I was really looking forward to seeing Samuel Jackson in those movies, but he was as wooden as it gets. The only decent performance in those prequels was Ian McDiarmid.

I think Nicholas Cage can come across as very samey in most of his film roles. In fact, the only films I like him in are Gone In 60 SeconRAB, Face Off, Con Air, The Weatherman and Leaving Las Vegas. Everything else he apears in he looks and talks like he's sleepwalking during the entire film. His voice always sounRAB the same, his facial expressions always stay the same (his hair always looks different though, a wig perhaps?).

I want to like the guy - he has been in so many films I would probably watch, but it's also his presence that would put me off watching a movie... he doesn't appear to have much range as an actor, and all his recent films being heaps of shite isn't helping him either!

Paddy :D

Yeah, that was a good performance. I also liked him in Leaving Las Vegas, Raising Arizona and Wild At Heart but sometimes you see him and it feels like he's just going through the motions, like he's on Nic Cage autopilot.

I saw StraightheaRAB on Film4 the other day and I wondered who was responsible for casting that. Danny Dire was dreadful (as always) and WTF was Gillian Anderson thinking?

The irony being that's one of the two lines Hayden didn't deliver as Vader. ;)

And yes - he was terrible. What is even more depressing is that the the CGI version of Anakin in the Clone Wars TV show makes a far more convincing human than Hayden did.

The Tom Welling comment made me laugh, I've always thought this as well. Both he and Miss Kreuk are below par actors...in fact most of them are on that show. The Luthers, especially John Glover, are good though. The others, especially the younger actors just are sooooo poor.

Yes, yes, YES!

Although Reeves' zombiefied style suited The Matrix. His performance in Dracula deserved the Dick Van Dyke Award for Worst British Accent and was a blot on what is arguably one of the best versions of Bram Stoker's tale. Even Sadie Frost turned in a watchable performance!

I'd like also to nominate Cruise/Kidman for Eyes Wide Shut. Not Kubrick's best effort but rendered completely unwatchable by this dead-eyed pair.

I would say Matchstick Men was a good film of his too, Nicolas Cage has always been a hit and miss actor some films are good others are terrible.

To be fair Ghost Rider wasn't bad just because of Nic Cage it was just a seriously bad film :)

I have to agree with Harry Potter Child actors being bad, they are really terrible the only reason I buy the films is because I am a fan of the books and I just seem to buy them automatically and then never watch them again :)

I think George Clooney is pretty bad in alot of his films (although I am told that he has got better in some recent ones)

Ben Affleck in Paycheck

Cuba Gooding Jr in a few films :)

Arnie in That Christmas one :)

To be fair, there are not many fine actors who you can say doesn't look the same and sound the same in everything they can do, I am thinking really hard and all I can come up with is Gary Oldman - He really can diverse his characters sometime I don't realise its him until I see the credits roll by.

I could also add Vince Vaughan, Will Ferrell, Steve Carell into that equation. Although have you seen Adam Sandler in Reign over me pretty good - he still does some of his shouty scenes but mostly its a good film, in my opinion anyway :)

Gervais in Night at the Museum.

He only had a couple of lines but I was embarrassed for him.

Amazingly I believe they are making a sequel and he's in it again.
