True or False: It is important that our president believe in God.

I do too. But it's a question that shouldn't be asked.

There was an interview with Colin Powell before Obama was elected into office when he officially endorsed him for the presidency. The interviewer asked him what his thoughts were on the accusations that Obama was a Muslim.

He basically said "So what if he is?"

That's exactly my feelings for the government. What someones background is doesn't matter, what matters is what they stand for and what they deliver. Their beliefs may influence their actions and policies but their beliefs should not be of discussion and they shouldn't be mentioned when making public decisions.

No.

Ideally the president would believe in the value of liquidating religion, however.

Thanks for the history lesson Professor. You don't have to be christian or religious in any way to have a good moral compass.

I agree with much of what you've said here actually. There is much I disagree with as well though. I think I assume too much if I think I understand your viewpoint entirely, just as you assume too much if you think you understand another man's definition of God.

But we can agree to disagree. I think there is room for atheists and for the rest of us on the planet, whatever they may believe in.

The false assumption here is that an absence of religion automatically eliminates all other forms of idiocy.

OT has a view of humanity that's about 2 inches wide.

Respect bro. True understanding of eachothers perspectives can only be grasped over beer.

Don't think the principle applies there. Religion can be used as a basis for community involvement, morality (relative, so it applies), etc in character positioning of a presidential candidate.

Religion as an official entity cannot collide with government issues, but there's nothing against it being used as a facet of someone's character.

And this coming from someone who despises religion.

People are entitled to consider whatever dumb criteria they want when voting for a president.

you do know that just saying something is a fact doesn't actually make it a fact, right

the country was founded on deist principles, not christian ones. the founders, in large part, mocked christianity.

I'd rather he didn't, since I don't want someone in the white house who believes in something that doesn't exist.

Ideally, No. Realistically....and unfortunately....yes. A candidate must believe in God to be elected President in this day in age. Although, I personally think that some (if not most) simply act religious because they feel its politically necessary.

Read again. I agreed they were deists and the tripoli treaty was actually found to be faulty and half assed. It was an ass kissing fest with the muslims so we can use the Mediterranean sea.

It's sad but you're right, if any political candidate were to specifically dodge questions about their religion I doubt they would ever get elected.

I'll be in puerto rico in 2 weeks take a fucking kayak to san juan ill buy us an eightball and a fifth of rum

I was stating a historical fact, idiot. The country was founded on christian principles and it's just fine in a sense today. Religion never effected the building of this country so it doesn't matter today.
