trouble with message alerts?

hi im having trouble receiving or being able to send messages to certain numbers..namely a local radio station in cleveland oh i send the message to 71041 which is there text number and i get a message back saying " sorry, this service is unavailable for your service plan" or in receiving text alerts from ebay..i called tmobile and they say they dont know why im having trouble getting messages and blamed it on ebay so i called ebay and they say its tmobiles fault but i receive messages from everyone else ..even from twitter.....any help would be great thanks in advance...

Certain T-Mobile account types are not compatible with those types of 5-digit short codes. Namely Flexpay and I think prepaid as well...

well im not on flex pay...im on a my-favs plan but if what you say is correct then why would some work and not others?i guess thats where im getting confused

Go to Options > Security Options > Firewall and see if any boxes are checked to "Block Incoming Messages". It should also give you a counter of any messages blocked. Also, as far as the service plan, I know that some of our local stations have ran promos before where the 5 digit SMS number was for a specific carrier. The announcement was the usual list of call in numbers, but then they said something like, "And for our Alltel subscribers, text 12345". Or something similar to that at least.

my firewall is turned off!!as far as carrier specific im not sure they never say but like with ebay when you set up to get message alerts you enter your number then choose your carrier which tmobile is an option but still no luck!so i guess ill call csr back and see if they can get a trouble ticket going or have some tech person look into it a bit more but thanks for trying to help me figure this out

And this problem only occurs with eBay and this radio station? You are able to receive all other PIN, SMS, and email messages fine?

well i dont have a data plan so no pin or email but yes i get all other sms and mms messages just fine..i have a twitter account also and get those updates just fine and those are from a short code number...and i also get them from my credit card co. chase just fine...

Options > SMS Text > Data Coding...Is it set to 7 bit? I've heard of this causing several random text issues. Also, try resending the service books. My last guess would be to call T-Mo and have them take you off the network (i.e. disable the SIM), then put you back on like it was a fresh account. I've read several times where this resolved problems with the carrier when the carrier claimed it wasn't them.
