Trouble deciding future with new boyfriend before college?

I recently started dating a guy I've known on and off for 4 years in high school. He's 18 and I'm 17 and we're both starting college in the fall (mid August). We've only been dating for two weeks, but we've really started moving things along. Things have been going a little too fast for the both of us lately and we've come to realize we won't be able to see very much of each other once we get to college. The college he plans to attend is two hours away from mine. He really doesn't want to get hurt by what will have to happen when we both go to college. We both really really like each other. He said that he sees it as having three options: staying together but not as close as we are right now, becoming good friends before college, or breaking it off when we hit college but stay in touch and if we want to get back together after a bit, we can. He said he liked the third option the best because it would really mean we want to be together and everything...but I'm just so depressed. I know I should probably start everything on a clean slate when I hit college, but I really like him. Have you guys ever experienced something like this? I really need some advice with how to get through this in one piece. After our talk today, he was like, "Well, we don't need to decide right now, but it's something to think about." I never really thought about it this much since we started dating and now reality has really sunk in. =/ Any advice on what to do? Thanks.
