TROPICAL FISH: Should I buy more cardinal tetras if I have 6 in a one gallon aquarium?

I need help from tropical fish experts! I am a goldfish person...I have 5 year old HUGE comet goldfish in my 30 gallon aquarium. I also have a one gallon aquarium, and I just bought some cardinal tetras yesterday. This little aquarium has a filter and a light with a cover. I leave the lid open a bit for oxygen (I hope this is enough for them!). I read about them on the net and understand they like 20 - 27 degree celcius temp, hiding spots, floating plants to shade light, and a large group of friends. I think if I bought more cardinals mine now would be happier. They're not eating a lot yet and I've done everything I can to make them happy. They're so pretty...I want them to live! They were expensive! I don't know if I'm caring for them as well as I should be.
Thanks for any input.
Ok I had no idea my tank was too small. I tried to get more information from the girl at the pet store but she was useless. This helps me for the next time, I'll pick out another beta or some more goldfish. Again, I have never had tropical fish. Thx for the answers.

Neon and cardinal tetras extremely picky to water quality. Way more picky than your goldfish. 1g fishtank way too small in sence that it much harder to keep at stable PH and Temperature. I can safely bet that all your tetras will be dead in about a week or two. I'd say 10g tank, about 10 tetras, 2-3 cory's, a couple of ghost shrimps. Some Amazon swords for plants. Piece of nice driftwood, good filter and you'll have nice setup.
