Stayed by bike on ground whole time up, hotel after I got there. If it was raining I slept with small air mattress covering me if no rain I slept on top of mattress ( the blow up kind with 4 D battery blower by coleman), sleep on side of bike so it is leaning away in case it drops it wont crush you to death.

Had a tent but it is still new in package as a tent is a PIA to set up for 3 - 4 hours sleep. Kept tent and sleeping bag in Saddleman seat bag B109, great big bag that is comfortable. So tired that geetting to sleep even wet and cold was no problem, just like my Army days.

Brand was a cheapo bag that stuffed pretty good in pack 30 degree poly of some type. Will get a nice Army cold weather one next time or a good mountain climbing one.

Gret write up and congrats are in order..reading your post my but was getting numb and my shoulders were hurting..thought I was their..

It was quite the ride!!! I'm not in such a huge rush to get home though ..... have stops in Phoenix and St Louis to do! What a group at the end party! Everyone was VERY VERY pleased to finished it all!!!

Lots of good advice and info here for anyone planning on doing a long trip up north or anyplace else for that matter.

+ 1 on Soldotna H-D. Had my bike serviced there and they are a great group of people. The Tech really knows his shit.

Sorry the shipper didn't work out but ya got to go ridding some more and stop at Sturgis so not all bad.

Thanks for taking the time to share your ride - I can relate after doing a trip to the Arctic Circle in 2008. It was a trip of a life time and want to go back one day !

Thanks again, WD
