Tried the camera, but it says "Please Insert an SD card before using the camera."

I'm having the same very annoying problem. It reads the SD Card every now and then, but more often than not it's this damn message. Such a shame because the phone is excellent, I'm getting along with it really well - but this damn problem has me feeling like throwing it at the wall.

The compartment is definitely shut, the card works in my old phone fine. So frustrating.

UPDATE The RC 33 update seems to have taken care of the problem for me. I'm glad I didn't have to reinstall everything.

I have read through this thread and will add my issue and circumstance to see which of the solutions may be good to try.

The phone reads the SD card for all programs. The phone takes 1 picture and saves it on the SD card, then it won't take a second instead putting the "please insert an SD card before using the camera" message. If I reboot the phone or eject and reinsert the SD card, it takes one more picture... then the error message again.

Like everyone, I would prefer not to have to reload all my applications or take everything off and put it back on my SD card if I can avoid it. If I do have to do one of these things, I'd be interested in knowing which of these may have the best likelihood of success.

Should I just wait until the RC 33 Update and see if that will help?
Since it reads the SD card for all other uses, will reformatting the SD card help?
Will returning my phone to factory settings and reinstalling everything help?

Hello!

I was having the same problems and tried all of the above short of formatting the SD card. I should mention it is a 4GB Sandisk SDHC.

What did the trick was connecting it to the computer and doing something I usually never let windows do automatically - scanning the card/usb drive when it feels it is necessary, but I had nothing to loose. Said it found and fixed one problem, disconnected the phone and tried it and the camera works again ever since!

Might be worth a shot just to run a manual scandisk on the card when the phone is attached to see if it fixes the problem...YMMV

I haven't seen anybody mention this, but I first noticed this after I unplugged my phone from Windows without doing a proper unmount. It's quite a disproportionate punishment to lose all camera functionality for forgetting to unmount the thing one time. I'm doing a scan disk now (it's taking forever). I'll post the results shortly.

EDIT: Scandisk fixed it!

...I have in my menue "SD card unmountable"
"Alert"
Please insert SD Card!
I select OK
still No good.
Should I see about putting my SD card in another phone to check the card?
How much do these SD cards cost to replace ?

I sure don't want to lose my videos from last year But I will NOT try to reformat as a next choice option at this point

sd cards are relatively cheap unless you want say a 16gb class 6 card or so...

always try your sd on another card reader or phone, before formatting to see if it's the card or the phone or at very least back up everything on the sdcard before trying other stuff.
